I’m a twenty-something country lass from Yorkshire, UK. I grew up around, and involved in, farming. I have, previously, snared my own dinner, hunted my food & gutted game. And do you know what? I absolutely hated it. That was where I started.
Over the past few years, I’ve learned a lot about myself. The most important thing I’ve learnt is that it’s absolutely ok to just be me. And if the ‘me’ I know loves a sausage bagel from McDonalds for breakfast, then so be it.
A couple of weeks ago, I visited a client of mine & stayed at his health retreat. I was terrified! I mean, there’s healthy and then there’s raw vegan. That’s quite a big jump in my books. From someone who religiously ordered chips with lasagna, instead of salad, the prospect of being raw vegan for a long weekend was enough to set anxiety in.
Do you know what? I didn’t eat a single salad the whole time. Seriously. The amazing range of dishes absolutely stunned me, and none looked like a salad. At all. And then, the lightbulb switched on.
You see, I love lasagna. I love chicken jalfrezi. I love sausage breakfast bagels & I love sausage and mash. But I really don’t get why people eat big slabs of meat. I mean, a steak is ok but to me I might as well be chomping on a cows behind… which is essentially kind of what it is.
So this new world of genuinely delicious dishes that can be meat free opened up. Not only that, they were all raw vegan. Yes, absolutely no animal products and absolutely nothing is cooked, fried or baked. And it was amazing. I left feeling like a different person. And that is really where my story began.
The following week was pancake day. I forgot. My bad. But I decided that for lent, i’d actually give something up. So this year, I’ve been brave and have made the FIRST step towards a healthier lifestyle. For the next 40 days and 40 nights, i’m meat free and a salad lover instead.
Therefore, Bananageddon is here. The blog that documents my meals, my thoughts, my cravings & my journey, including logging the views and comments of other people who surround me in my life. I have a feeling it’ll be interesting, it’d be great to have you along for the ride!
